Two engines
Perplexity brand mentions
Perplexity answers with sources in the open. That makes it a useful second pass next to ChatGPT. One engine can name you and the other can skip you. Mentionmill runs the same prompt on both so you see the split instead of arguing from two different screenshots.
A Perplexity mention is still not a listing you own. It is a name in an answer, often next to a link. Those links matter. If the model cites a directory, a news page, or a competitor’s guide, that is the surface to look at this week — not a new homepage paragraph that never gets cited.
Type the customer question, not a brand query. “Best HVAC company in Denver” is closer to how someone asks than “does Perplexity know Harbor Heating.” Your brand goes in the Your brand field. We look for that string in the answers.
The result is Named or Not named, who else, and cited links. This week gives three steps built from that pass. If you were not named, the steps start with a page that answers the prompt and a listing or citation on a host they already used. If you were named, the steps are about staying on those hosts and watching new names.
Save the prompt for $29/month if you want the weekly re-run and an email when the names change. Agencies use this when a client asks “are we in Perplexity?” and needs a sentence they can send, not a 12-tab GEO file. More prompts later. This plan is one prompt on purpose.
ChatGPT still runs on the same submit. A split — named here, missing there — is common. Do not treat one engine as the truth. Work the cited hosts from both. The disclaimer is the same: these steps don’t guarantee you’ll get named.
Related pages cover citations and “cited in Perplexity” if the client only cares about sources. This page is the mention. Use Your brand. Use their question. Check.

Mentionmill is not affiliated with OpenAI, ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google. Those names appear here only because people ask whether a shop shows up in those answers.
